Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin...

Long long ago, all the way back in 2010, a wig mistress on a show at the local theatre contacted me to ask if she could rent one of my apartments as a short-term dig. My initial thought was no – I was accustomed to renting my properties on the typical 6 months plus basis and renting short term would lead to the extra burden of administrative tasks, additional costs and the increased risk of rental voids.

But there was a small but persistent voice at the back of my head urging me to give it a go and see what happens - so I did. This led to another and to another and fast forward to today where I provide short term digs to the theatre, film and TV industry across a half dozen or so self-catering properties in multiple cities.

My ethos from the beginning was to offer safe, comfortable and affordable accommodation for the touring community. Having worked in the IT industry for over 20 years, I am always keen to simplify and automate administrative tasks and having been in the property industry for a similar length of time, I always aim to provide my tenants with a class leading level of service and quality accommodation.

So, it came as no surprise to me that after listening to the bugbears of touring professionals for over half a decade, I decided to try and do something about it. I triangulated my experiences in developing and delivering IT solutions, being a landlord and providing short term accommodation and created MoreThanDigs.com.

MoreThanDigs.com has been developed with the host and tour cast and creatives in mind.

It aims to get digs maximum exposure for the lowest cost. My vision is simple - to provide an affordable service to help hosts maximise their occupancy rate whilst at the same time removing the pressure of finding digs for those on tour. Thousands of theatre, TV and film professionals travel the length and breadth of the UK every week and all have one thing in common - the need to book quality accommodation easily and quickly.

That’s the story so far, but new chapters are being added every day. Maybe the next chapter will involve you?
